Nem Says Goodbye to Equality Maine
During the time I have spent at EqualityMaine, I have had the honor to work with many of the giants upon whose shoulders this movement rests. I have encountered people who have spent many lifetimes advocating for the rights I enjoy today, and I have met people with the incredible strength and determination to decide to come out much later in life. Every one of these people has a story, and these stories make up the tapestry that is our collective history. The opportunity to be a part of this history has been a great honor.
It is with sadness that I tell you I will be transitioning away from EqualityMaine in a few weeks. The time I have spent with this organization and the people I have had the honor of meeting have been truly inspiring.
One program that holds a special place in my heart, especially during LGBTQ+ History Month, is the Network for Older Adults (NOA). I am thrilled to hand the reins over to Izzy Ostrowski, who has already done incredible work and will undoubtedly continue to breathe joy and life into this program.
Over just this last year, NOA’s monthly meals for older adults have bloomed from two to six. That’s six different meals every single month! Over the past year, NOA has hosted numerous intergenerational events and book readings, and is currently organizing vaccine clinics in Portland and Bangor. Izzy, the Advisory Board, and our volunteers are doing incredible work to keep this program going and growing, but they could use your help. If you would like to help out with this program or learn more about how to participate, please subscribe to the newsletter here. You can also see the upcoming calendar events on our website.
As I reflect on my time with EqualityMaine, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities I have had and the remarkable people I have met along the way. It has truly been an honor to serve this vibrant community. I am eternally grateful for the work that has been accomplished before me and that will continue long after my departure.
Thank you all for being a part of this journey. Please continue to lift each other.
Most sincerely,
Nem Knight (she/her)
