The New Leaders Project Summer Camp is a week-long LGBTQ+ youth summer overnight camp that aims to strengthen leadership skills, build resilience, and provide opportunities for self-affirming discovery and personal growth. At camp, we strive to foster real connections and relationships between LGBTQ+ youth, allies, and a team of dedicated counselors and staff. We aim to inspire and challenge campers with passionate, experienced, and talented speakers.

COUNSELORS IN TRAINING

  • I gained community with other queer kids and queer adults. I hope to gain more confidence and learn to take up more space.

  • It was the best week of my summer, I made so many friends that I’ve been in touch with since then. The counselors are the most amazing people ever and I’ve learned so much from them.

  • “At camp, [my child] found community. They were surrounded by peers and mentors who understood them deeply, without explanation or apology. They gained friendships that will carry them through difficult times, and they discovered that their voice, their story, and their identity matter. I saw them come home with a new sense of agency—like they had permission not only to exist but to take up space in the world.”

  • Some advice I would give to someone attending camp for the first time is to BE YOURSELF. Camp is genuinely the safest space to be yourself in a world of having to conform to societal norms. No matter what type of person you are or which ways you act, there will be people who will love you. It can be scary to meet new people at first, but once you start getting to know some people you will absolutely love it.

  • I’m incredibly grateful that my son has the opportunity to attend this camp each Summer. The glow of happiness that radiates off him makes my heart so happy! I love hearing about the connections and how he felt apart of something with people similar to him. He’s able to take the mask off he and be his full authentic self without feeling there is judgement. I truly believe this has created hope that he isn’t alone in this world and that there are like minded/similar individuals.
