NEW LEADERS PROJECT CAMP PROGRAMS

The New Leaders Project is EqualityMaine’s LGBTQ+ youth programs in Maine, designed to empower the next generation of LGBTQ+ leaders and allies. This dynamic youth leadership program helps create a safer, more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ young people across the state.

Our New Leaders Project is anchored in our week-long overnight program – New Leaders Project: Summer Camp. This program, now in its 17th summer, brings together LGBTQ+ youth from across the state (and beyond!) to engage in community building, advocacy workshops, and LGTBQ+ history all while gaining a traditional summer camp experience. Campers can expect camp crafts, variety shows, swimming, kayaking/canoeing, workshops, art activities, lots of laughter, and more!

To further establish and extend our community, we collaborate with MaineTransNet for two retreats during the Maine school year vacations. These are our New Leaders Project: Winter Retreat with MaineTransNet over February vacation week, and NLP: Art&Nature Retreat with MTN over April vacation week. Campers in these programs can expect a shorter overall program (2-3 nights), fewer attendees, and lots of time for community, connection, outdoor exploration, and art activities.
