EqualityMaine Executive Director Announces Departure
PORTLAND, Me. — EqualityMaine has announced that Executive Director Gia Drew will step down in September after nearly 15 years at the organization.
John Hennessy, President of the Board of Directors, said Drew’s commitment to protecting and advancing the rights of LGBTQ+ people in Maine has been “both inspirational and exceptional, and has sustained our community through unprecedented challenges.”
“Gia has been a steadfast steward of the organization, growing key programs with integrity, vision, and a deep belief in the dignity of all LGBTQ+ Mainers,” Hennessy said. “She is leaving EqualityMaine in a position of incredible strength and meaningful relationships far and wide. While we will miss Gia’s leadership, we celebrate her remarkable service and impressive legacy.”
Drew said she will prepare for her next chapter “with tremendous gratitude.”
“Serving this organization and the LGBTQ+ community in Maine has been one of the greatest privileges of my life,” Drew said. “I am so proud of what we have accomplished together and confident that EqualityMaine will continue to defend human rights and take care of our beautiful community for years to come.”
The EqualityMaine Board of Directors has launched a nationwide search for a new executive director to lead the organization into its next chapter.
