Ezra’s Fund

Kris Isaacson Lape and Jamie Isaacson established Ezra’s Fund in 2025 in memory of their son, Ezra Lape Isaacson. The fund supports EqualityMaine’s programming, which provides safe, educational, creative, and supportive spaces for the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

“Ezra lived a life full of kindness, bravery, humor, hardship, generosity and love. He was extremely caring and would do what he could for someone in need. As a trans man Ezra began his journey at a very young age. When his dream was realized at 25 he felt like he was finally the man he wanted to be. His joy was contagious – as was his laugh.
Sadly, he died at 27.

He was so concerned about how politics became a threat to this community. He supported others who needed affirmation and connection. That caring likely grew from his own experience of growing up in a small central Maine community that had little awareness of gender identity issues. As a young adult he found a community in Portland that gave him so much support. It seems as though his concern for all marginalized people began about then.

His other gift was caring for the younger generation of kids who question their gender identity and need to express that in safe ways and places. Our Ezra was smart, creative and artistic. He was a musician, fashion designer, graphic designer, a writer, and one of the bravest people we have ever known. He lives on through so many people, and through all of our memories, stories, feelings and actions. He lives with us every day and will never be forgotten.

He created a meaningful life through his fortitude and creativity. This fund hopes to be a continuation of his kindness and caring for all people. Ezra would be so happy about this. His heart would be (is) full of gratitude. Please join us in supporting this effort.
